Preparing to launch

Fine-tuning a startup's landing page

Client Name: BOLT

Project Type: Copy Audit, Copywriting

Project Duration: 1 month

Project Overview

As business veterans, BOLT’s founders wanted their latest venture—and their new brand—to reflect their extensive experience making fulfillment and distribution centers more efficient.

They worked with a design and branding agency to create a new visual identity. As the agency conducted a brand exploration, BOLT’s look and feel began to unfold.

It was an exciting time for BOLT as they got closer to launching the new brand. They began to expand the deliverables required for the launch, which included a landing page to introduce customers to the company.

The founders had a wireframe that included some initial copy, but they believed it needed a bit of polishing before it was ready to go live on the new site. I was brought in to workshop the copy and wireframe so the landing page would clearly explain what BOLT did and how they were experts in material handling.

Checking out the competition

Before writing a single word, I had to understand the people who would eventually visit BOLT’s site and what they expected once they got there. To do this, I also conducted a competitive analysis to get a sense of what other companies in the industry were doing and identify areas where the BOLT could stand out.

In addition to this research, I also referred to the initial discovery interview conducted as part of the rebrand. This information provided important context about the founders’ experience and the expertise they brought to their customers.

Shaping the startup's voice

BOLT’s founders had a few requirements the new brand and landing page copy had to meet. Since this was only a one-page site, it had to do a lot of heavy lifting to position them as:

  • Experts in material handling
  • Experienced in streamlining warehouse, fulfillment, and distribution center operations
  • Specialists providing bespoke enterprise solutions

So, to make this happen, the existing wireframe was adjusted to:

  • Move the social proof higher on the page
  • Condense the contact form and surrounding copy
  • Incorporate clearer CTA buttons
  • Introduce subheads and body copy to overcome prospect objections
  • Include a hero image headline and subhead to match expectations once someone lands on the page

The copy reflected these changes to help position BOLT as professionals in their field and distinguish them from their competitors.

Ready to launch

After going through a couple of rounds of review and refinement, the new copy and wireframe were implemented into the final design. BOLT’s new brand and landing site launched in 2024 and can be viewed live here.
